Recycling & Transfer Station FAQ's The Town of Hooksett collects trash Monday - Friday, 5 days a week. Only household trash is collected at the curb. (See our list of accceptable materials and charges for proper disposal of other items.) There is a 30-lb weight limit to the barrels. That means if you are currently using the larger barrels, the trash must be bagged no heavier than the limit. Try to remember that there are men who have to lift those barrels and your taxes pays for the workers compensation, should they get hurt. If you do not have a cover then holes must be drilled in the barrel so that rain/snow/ice does not make the barrels heavier. Personal hygiene products and kitty litter must be double bagged. That is a health issue. If there is a holiday, the holiday trash is collected along with the regularly scheduled day on the next working day. During snow events, we try our best to get the truck out. If the roads are too bad or not safe enough for the men on the back of the truck, we will not collect. A second truck will go out on the next working day. If there is a state of emergency, trash will not be collected. All trash must be out by 7 am, all year. Weather, truck breakdowns and road closures due to emergencies are reasons for this. Unfortunately, we cannot contact people to let them know. If you are unsure, please call the office at 669-5198. We try to update everything on our recorder. You will find all holidays, charges and acceptable lists on this website. www.hooksett.org
