"GOT SOCKS " for our homeless families? Our greater Manchester area Homeless Families are in need of new socks for all ages. The Hooksett lions club has started a “Got Socks” campaign to help provide at the very least socks to help keep those families a little warmer.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which the United States voted to support when it was ratified by the United Nations in 1948, states that "everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control."
(United Nations General Assembly Resolution 217A (III), www.un.org/Overview/rights.)
It is that declaration that appears on the NHunderthebridge.blog.com which is a dedicated group of formerly homeless persons advocating for those still out, joined by community partners who care- outreach to those who are experiencing homelessness. Members of that group recently appeared a lions club meeting and that struck a cord in our Lions Club and that has resulted in the “Got Socks”. On October 10, 2009 at Hooksett Old Home Day , please place your donation of unused socks in the clothes basket located at the Lions Club tent. The Lions motto is “we serve” so help us help those in need . Thank you for your contributions. For more information contact your local lion’s Club member. See you at Old Home Day!
