The Preserve America initiative is a White House effort to encourage and support community efforts for the preservation and enjoyment of America’s priceless cultural and natural heritage. First Lady Laura Bush, Honorary Chair of Preserve America, wrote in a letter congratulating Hooksett:  “You honor our nation’s past and inspire and educate for the future.”
Heritage CommitteeRSA 674:44-a states that a “Heritage Commission may be established in accordance with RSA 673 for the proper recognition, use, and protection of resources, tangible or intangible, primarily man-made, that are valued for their historic, cultural, aesthetic, or community significance within their natural, built, or cultural contexts."
Administrative Code:Section 4.7

Handle transactions relating to all cultural resources including hiring consultants and contractors as needed and receiving gifts of money and property, both real and personal, in the name of the Town, subject to the approval of the Town Council. Such gifts shall be managed and controlled by the commission for their proper use.
